For Mother's Day, The Agora Culture highlights the inspiring stories from artists and collectors. Here, artist William Rhodes talks encouragement.

My mother has been an artistic inspiration beginning in my formative years, and certainly since the start of my art career. She always encouraged me to produce art and nurtured my artistic growth as a child. My parents paid for weekend art classes at the local museum to jumpstart my interest in art. I recognize how lucky I am to have a mother who supported an unusual and uncertain educational and career path. She knew the important role of art in my happiness and expression of feelings. To this day, my mother is excited about each of my art projects. I am pleased to report she is taking art classes at a local senior center!

I’m proud to be a part of a family that supports the arts and receives so much joy from the creation of art.
